Biodiversity of Thought, Technology and Open Source

There is a huge world out there under the hood. Choosing your operating system is the first step. One issue I see is that the general user does not know that they have a choice to begin with. I consider that ideas behave like living organisms, and choice is the first step to creating the "biologically diverse" ecosystem of thought. For that reason alone, is why I choose Linux. Not only does it offer me the choice between Microsoft and something else, within Linux, I may choose Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora Core, Mint.... and the list continues from there. The programs are all evolutionary based. If a programs solves a larger community need or is culturally relevant, it will continue to grow and evolve. However, if a program falls out of favor say if a developer stops supporting the program and there is not enough community support to take up the torch, then like many other evolutionary dead-ends, the program fades into obscurity.

I have the choice to decide what I use, how I organize my work space, and what I choose to work on. For me, this is priceless!
